We got the call about a job that was done poorly and needed to be fixed. A company had subbed out the flooring to put in pre-finish and it went badly. The issue was with the nailing. You need to use 2 inch or larger cleats with hardwood flooring. The cleats on this job were not cleats, they were finish nails. The other issue were there were only 40 of them in 600 feet.
What 1 nail in a 5 foot board looks like:
Since there were no cleats the wood had began to move and gap on the homeowners in only a few short months. The homeowner decided she wanted to go with a 5″ hickory. The final look was awesome.
The sanding process used on this 5″ hickory
- 40 girt belt sand
- vacuum
- fill the full floor
- 60 grit trio
- 80 grit edge
- vacuum
- 100 grit edge
- 100 grit trio
- vacuum
- 3 coats of sealer/finish using SunFinish UV
The outcome was absolutely stunning and beautiful. The homeowners absolutely loved that they were able to move their stuff back in the same day as we finished. You can view more about UV coatings here, you can also give us a call if you want some more information!
