Maple is a lovely wood. Getting the proper coating and the proper sheen is key to maple looking as beautiful as it can. If you use the wrong coating it will yellow horribly, to a golden yellow or if you go too glossy it will have streaks. A-Max likes to use UV coatings on maple to preserve the white beauty of maple. We also like to use a satin sheen on maple to pop the woods natural beauty. Below is the process we used to sand the floor flat without any scratch marks.
Process of sanding maple wood flooring:
- 60 grit belt sand
- 80 grit edge
- vacuum
- 60 grit trio
- vacuum
- 100 grit trio
- 100 grit edge
- vacuum
The floor came out beautiful. Maple wood flooring if done correctly can be one of the most beautiful woods in a house. If you are thinking of getting your maple refinished and do not want a yellowing or amber’ing affect, make sure that you get a water-based finish. Below are some pictures of the finished product.
The finish used on this floor was Arboritec UV Elite. The finish is a UV finish and is cured instantly so you are able to go back on the floor and use it as you normally would the same day we leave. The other upside to the finish is there is virtually no smell and absolutely nothing harmful to breathe after we leave. By curing the finish instantly with a UV light any “gassing off” that would normally happen with any air cured finish no longer happens. UV is the healthiest and most friendly finish on the market today!
The homeowners could not have been happier with the floor, they were a joy to work with!
