A-Max Hardwood had the pleasure of working with Arboritec, more specifically Mark Mukosiej. Mark is a technical representative from Arboritec who knows anything and everything you will need to know about the finishes at Arboritec. Mark was in Boise to watch how A-Max Hardwood applies the UVElite by Arboritec. A-Max Hardwood has some of the most experience with UV in the United states, we were able to apply UV finishes to over 200 floors last year.
Below is a review of the Arboritec UV Product
A non-bias review of the UVElite products by Arboritec. A-max hardwood has had the opportunity to try almost every product on the market. Our review is based on the other products and ranking it against those other products on the market.
Leveling:
Arboritec UVElite is much like its predecessors, First coat & Avenue – the coatings level and apply very easily. The main thing with any waterbased product is how it levels out and how forgiving it is. A bad level waterbased product can be very frustrating. UVElite is a great leveling product that will hide some of the more general coating mishaps that can happen.
Sheen and look:
The satin sheen is just like any Bona traffic or another satin waterbased product. The end product of this product is very nice and gives the floor a great look. Boise tends to like the matte or the satin sheen’s so we have yet to be able to try the semi-gloss or the high gloss offerings, I would assume they would be of the same quality and end product.
Repairs:
Repairs are tedious and annoying for any contractor. We have had the unfortunate opportunity to try our hand at a repair with the UVElite. The unfortunate opportunity came due to a dot on the floor that was flung from the applicator and missed. The great news is that the UVElite was an easy coating to repair and the sheen was exactly the same as the cured portion. Once the repair was done you were unable to see any difference. Arboritec says you can fix without a board-line repair if you are careful, I would recommend a full board line tape off. The full board line tape off ensures no issues and if there is a slight sheen difference will be unnoticeable.
Customer Support:
Admittedly we had an issue at first with this product (UVElite) on a certain type of wood and were disappointed. I immediately called Arboritec and was able to get a hold of Mark (same guy as above). Within 1 week he was in Boise helping us fix the issue. I could not say more about this company in terms of their customer support. My issue with the certain wood was fixed once Mark demonstrated what we needed to do different for our certain geographical area. I am hard-pressed to even get a phone call back from certain bigger companies when I have an issue, let alone trying to get them to the job site.
I would highly suggest using Arboritec coatings even if you do not use UVElite. They are a great coating to have in your arsenal. The sheen looks great and the ease of application is superb. The support system from Arboritec is top notch and they will make sure you get the answers you need, fast. Feel free to call me, Allan if you have any questions.
