Nampa, Idaho has many farm houses that have wood flooring that has been neglected over the years. The neglect ranges from carpet begin on top of the flooring, constant mud and gravel on the flooring or just many years between maintenance of the flooring in general. However, the great thing about refinishing a hardwood floor is you have the chance to start of fresh once again. While some of the issues from previous years might still be there you are able to start with a nearly fresh look! Below are some pictures of this Douglas Fir flooring prior to refinishing. The gaps are huge, the floor is splintering and the overall looks like a giant mess!
As you can see this floor required tons of work. We did 2 trowel fills and 1 spot fill for gaps still needing more fill. Most the cracks actually did go away. Some of the cracks were just too large and didn’t fully go away but none the less it looked amazing after the fill. The sanding process used is as follows:
- 60 grit belt sand
- 50 grit edge
- vacuum
- 1st trowel fill
- 80 grit edge
- 80 grit belt sand
- vacuum
- 2nd trowel fill
- 100 grit trio
- 100 grit edge
- vacuum
- 3 coats of finish
