Maple is a beautiful wood that has lots of character and rich colors running through it. The best coating that makes this specific wood shine in my opinion is water-based coating. You are able to preserve the white color of the maple while still having the dark rich browns it offers. This homeowner was simply tired of her house being “dingy” and “yellow” from her previous coating that was included with the house. The floor was refinished and then had 2 coats of waterbased finish put on top. I am not sure we have had a more thrilled customer in years, she was overjoyed with the outcome and loved everything about the floor!
Our sanding process for this floor was as follows:
- 50 grit belt sand
- vacuum
- 60 grit edge
- vacuum
- 80 grit belt sand
- 80 grit edge sand
- vacuum
- 100 grit trio
- 100 grit edge
- vacuum
- 3 coats of finish
The finish used on this floor was basic coatings Streetshoe NXT. This waterbased wood floor coating is Basic Coatings newest coating that looks absolutely silky smooth on the floor. The floor pops and looks fantastic. The sheen is one you can’t even describe unless seeing in person. Some pictures below are of the project after completion.
