This floor was an interesting one because there was a ton of sun damage around a rug that had been there for years. The floor originally had a polyurethane on it. If you are not familiar polyurethane/oil modified finishes for hardwood, usually, they turn hardwood floors a yellow color. This is why at A-Max we only use water based products. Waterbased (including UV) will make the woods natural looking as possible. This is exactly what this customer wanted, something that would not make her wood look yellow only after a few weeks/months. Check the before pictures out below and you can get a sense of what we were dealing with.
To get the sun damage out the following grit pattern was used:
- 40 grit belt sand at 45degrees
- 40 grit belt sand straight with the grain
- vacuum
- 80 grit edging
- 60 grit belt sander
- vacuum
- 60 grit trio
- vacuum
- 100 grit trio
- 100 grit orbital
- vacuum
- bond/sealer coat
- buff
- builder coat
- buff
- finish UV coat
The final outcome of the floor was absolutely stunning. You can see the outcome below. The line was where the rug had been was 100% gone. The UV finish was absolutely clear and showed more grain than any other finish on the market. If you are looking for the clearest and most natural looking hardwood floor finish than UV (ultra violet) is what you will want.
