This homeowner called A-Max and wanted to get his carpeted area replaced with wood. He had existing wood, wanted it to match and fit seamlessly into the existing wood. The wood he had was birch, the uncommon thing he had were 2 different plank sizes, 3″ and 5″. The homeowner decided he wanted to have a UV coat put down on the floor. UV is a finish that is virtually odorless and a very green product. You can read more about UV here. You can see the after pictures below.
The sanding process for new installations are as follows:
- 40 grit belt sand at 45 degrees
- 40 grit belt sand straight with the grain
- vacuum
- 80 grit edging
- 60 grit belt sander
- vacuum
- 60 grit trio
- vacuum
- 100 grit trio
- 100 grit orbital
- vacuum
- bond/sealer coat
- buff
- builder coat
- buff
- finish UV coat
The end product was flawless and looked amazing. The transformation from where the floor began was striking. What was once a dirty looking polyurethane was now perfectly clear, blemish free UV floor.
