Did you know birch hardwood is the softest of hardwoods? Even though it is approved as a hardwood flooring option and is very beautiful; it is very, very soft. The common saying to tell birch from maple is just to press your nail into it and see if it dents, if it dents it is birch. That being said red birch looks elegant and is naturally very beautiful. You just have to be very careful to not dent the wood, dropping things and animals nails are two big causes of dents in birch flooring.
