Did you know Brazilian Cherry has a Janka Rating of 2350. Thank makes it one of the hardest wood flooring option in Idaho. Ipe is the only other hardwood that is harder than Brazilian Cherry. The reason for this is because Idaho has such a harsh climate.
A-Max Hardwood had the opportunity to refinish and install new hardwood in a house in Boise. The wood was Brazilian Cherry. Brazilian cherry unlike American Cherry is it has a very dark red undertone to it. The amount added on to the original wood floor was around 150 sq. ft. Brazilian Cherry is a very beautiful hardwood naturally with any type of wood finish. However, Brazilian Cherry mixed with the Ultra-Violet option from SunFinish it looks absolutely stunning. The reason for the difference in look is that UV is a very clear finish. Using another waterbased or oil will have a more opaque look to it not allowing you yo see all the grain patterns and colors of the natural wood.
You can see the end result below:
The way the floor was refinished is below:
- 40 grit
- Vacuum
- 80 grit edger
- 60 grit Tri0
- Vacuum
- 100 grit Trio
- 100 grit orbital
- Vacuum
- 120 grit Trio
As you can see the sanding progression mixed with the super clear finish it produced amazing and stunning results for the homeowner. The homeowner was very happy with the time frame we were able to install, refinish and finish the floor. Within 72 hours the new wood was installed and the dining room table was on the floor and ready for Thanksgiving dinner. UV is the only option that would ever allow you to have the floor finished and being used the same day! There is no longer any smell or a 7-30 day wait period to being able to use your floor as normal anymore.
