Did you know some hardwood floors change color over time more so than others? Cherry hardwood is heavily affected by UV light and over time will change from a pale red, to a deep red – to even black! By sanding the hardwood we are sanding the layer of wood that has been affected by the sun or UV. When sanded off the wood will go back to the original color of the wood. The orginal color is a pale red, most homes in need of a re-sand are about 10 years or 15 years into the aging process.
Below are some pictures of 15 year-aged cherry wood
The floor was refinished using our normal techniques and the SAME finish used on the floor prior to use refinishing. Below you can see the difference.
The difference is striking. The interesting part is the wood will age in due time and once again look the same as above!
