Douglas Fir is a great looking wood and has been used through out the Boise valley in many older homes. The distinct color of fir can be seen in the photos below. The finish used was a UV product by SunFinish. The sheen used on this job was a Commercial satin. The outcome was absolutely beautiful. The new homeowners were able tom ove in the next day and use their floor as normal.
Sanding process for the Douglas Fir:
- 60 grit belt sand
- 80- grit edger
- vacuum
- 60 grit trio
- vacuum
- 100 grit trio
- 100 grit edge
- vaccum
Fir is a lovely wood, but it is a very soft wood. Since the wood is so soft it makes it not an attractive wood for flooring. If you have no dogs or kids, it is absolutely stunning. Douglas fir is not recommended for newer families.
