Recently buying a house in Hyde Park this homeowner inquired about having his house refinished or new wood installed. His wife didn’t think that it was possible to make the floor look like new. In the end she was absolutely flabbergasted it was possible to go from awful to beautiful again. The hardwood was the classic thin red oak boards that are almost no longer in use and have to usually be specialty made.
The sanding process for this floor is as follows:
- 40 grit belt sand
- vacuum
- 60 grit trio
- 80 grit edge
- vacuum
- 100 grit edge
- 100 grit trio
- waterpop
The finish used on this floor was a semi-gloss UV product. We used a semi-gloss since it makes the red oak in these older homes pop and more traditional looking. Normally we use a satin product in more modern houses.
Below you can see the pictures of the end result:
The great advantages of the UV product is that the homeowner bought the house and within 48 hours was able to move his stuff on the floor. Normal finishes such as an oil/poly would mean 1-2 weeks of nor being able to put your furniture/rugs down. If interested in getting your hardwood floor refinished or repaired give us a call.
