The red oak floor was yellowed, dinged and wearing off just after 5 years. That is the typical from a oil finished floor. It is a great look for a few months but after just doesn’t hold up to the normal day abuse and UV rays from the sun. The homeowner wanted no smell and to be back on the floor within 48 hours. The only way to do both would be a UV finish. The uv finish used on this house was lightforce by Basic Coatings. It is a good coating and offers all the upsides of UV coatings.
The sanding process for this red oak is below:
- 40 grit belt sand
- vacuum
- 60 grit belt sand
- 60 grit trio
- vacuum
- 80 grit edge
- 100 grit trio
- 100 grit edge
- vacuum

Once we were done with the floor the homeowner was able to get all their furniture back on the floor and use their home like normal.
