A-Max Hardwood was approached by the president of an adult day center for mentally challenged people from Caldwell, Idaho. The requirements for the said center were we would need to work on a Saturday and Sunday and the finish needed to be fully cured, last 3-5 years with constant foot traffic, and gassed off (no left over fumes when the center reopened that Monday) in those 2 days. Normally this would be virtually impossible. However, we had just recieved our UV (Ultra Violet) machine from hid.com and our finish from sunfinish.com. These 2 companies made the refinish requirements possible. You can read more about UV floor finishes here.
Before Pictures:
The floor was apparently refinished just 6 years prior. The amount of wear on the floor made it look like it had 20-25 years of use. In a commercial/high traffic area using a polyurethane is absolutely not recommended. The reasons for this are that the finish only lasts up to 5-6 years in homes. In businesses its suggested length of use is a maximum of around 2-3 years. This is why UV coatings are so nice and far superior for ware in commercial and residential spaces. UV floor coatings, believe it or not, are used in many applications inclyding retail and commerical spaces- they are used in stores like Bed Bath and Beyond, Sears, Airports and the list goes on.
The UV floor coating on this floor looked absolutely fabulous. You can see below:
The hardwood floor refinish with UV finish went as expected and on time. The outcome as you can see is a striking difference. If you are looking for beauty as well as great durability – UV floor Finish is what you need.
