Red oak in older homes is very common. Usually it is a red oak/ white oak mix as in with this house. The red oak and white oak combination makes for a very classic look but is also great for hiding any wear and tear of the floor. The reason white and red oak make such good flooring options is because the wood is very busy and it can be hard to see imperfections such as scratches or normal wear. You will see a lot of red oak and white oak combinations in Boise, Idaho in the north end or in Nampa, Idaho you will see it in the pre-1970’s homes. In an old home make sure you look under the carpet, there might just be hardwood! This was the case in this home.
