This couple wanted to have a fully green refinish process, they wanted no toxic chemicals in their house. They also wanted the process to be done and over within 2 days. The only way to possibly have this done is to use a UV finish. Monocoat is a green finish and so is Bona Traffic, however, they take 5-7 days to fully cure. With the time frame the homeowner was on this was impossible to use those 2 finishes. That is what make UV finishes so great for hardwood, no smell, very low VOC, green and usable immediately after completion.
The floor was in shambles, after-all, the floor was 44 years old and never refinished. The red oak floor had tack strip holes, pet stains and almost no finish left on the floor. You can see the starting pictures below:
The floor was sanded with the following grit progression:
- 40 grit belt
- 80 grit edger
- vacuum
- 60 grit trio
- vacuum
- 100 grit trio
- 100 grit orbital
- vacuum
The outcome was as follows:
The finish used was UV SunFinish which is cured on the 2nd day and can be used immediately after the process of coating is done! The floor looked beautiful and showed the rich reds of the red oak floor.
